Arbanassi

The picturesque village of Arbanassi is located 4 kilometers north-east from the town of Veliko Tarnovo. It is founded in 13th century from Bulgarian boyars. It developed as an important craft and trade center. It is an interesting tourist destination because of the preserved antique houses from the Renaissance and richly painted churches.
The houses have pretty yards, cozy inner spaces, surrounded with high stone walls, like mini-fortresses. For the inner decoration is used fretwork, gesso ornaments in the shape of flowers. The most interesting are the Kandilarov’s, Konstantza’s and Hadjiiliev’s houses. The churches have stone walls, massive oak gates, and interesting inner frescoes. One must visit the churches “Christ’s Birth” and “St. Georgi” and others.
