Etara

Etara is the only ethnographic museum in the open in Bulgaria. It is located in the district with the same name in the town of Gabrovo on the north flanks of the Stara Planina Mountains. The complex is built through restoration of existing ancient objects, re-creating of buildings on the models from the past and introduction of original outfits. The craftsmen display live in their tiny shops making of traditional dishes, manufacturing of ceramic articles and products from the traditional Bulgarian artistic crafts – cutlery, braiding. The originality and the distinctive artistry of the people of Gabrovo are shown in an amusing and intriguing way. The original architecture and folklore, national costumes of Gabrovo region are preserved very well. There are many old-time fountains, ancient house-museums, taverns.
